“The cat in sheep’s clothing”, “The velcro cat”, “the teddy bear cat”
Many names for the Selkirk Rex, but all true. Originating in Montana in the 1980s, when Persian breeder Jere Newman, came across a strange sight one day in her barn. A cat with curly fur!
Over the years and many outcrosses including American Shorthairs, British Shorthairs, and yes even the Persian that started it all, the Selkirk Rex has grown to be a driving force in the cat world.
With their affectionate, laidback, and silly personalities, they are a staple of any household whether engaged in a large family dynamic, or a tried-and-true companion for those who need a little love in their lives.
